GTECH AWARDED SECOND CONTRACT TO PROVIDE ON-LINE EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES IN ARGENTINA

WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that the company has signed an agreement to provide equipment and services for use by Loteria Nacional Sociedad Del Estado (Loteria Nacional), the national lottery of Argentina.
Under the terms of the contract, which was awarded following a competitive procurement, GTECH will be the exclusive supplier of a on-line lottery system to an Argentine company created as a result of a joint venture between IVISA and Boldt Impresores, two Argentine lottery suppliers. The Argentine company will, in turn, supply products and services for half of Loteria Nacional's retailer locations. GTECH will receive a fixed fee and a percentage of lottery sales for its equipment and services. Specific financial terms have not been disclosed.
Although Loteria Nacional has offered off-lines games since 1893, it will use the GTECH-supplied equipment and services, including a central system, terminals, software, a hybrid radio/satellite communications network, and technical support, to offer its games through an on-line system. GTECH will initially install 800 terminals at approximately 600 locations in the federal district of Buenos Aires. The Lottery may subsequently choose to expand in the federal district or into other provinces.
This contract represents the second business agreement between GTECH, IVISA and Boldt Impresors. GTECH also provides equipment and services to Software De Juegos, a separate Argentine company representing a joint venture between IVISA and Boldt Impresores. In September, 1993, Software De Juegos commenced operation of an on-line lottery system for the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (PILC), which operates the provincial lottery of Buenos Aires; and has since received an order for additional equipment, including 500 additional terminals, to meet the PILC's expansion requirements.
In other news, GTECH announced that is has signed an agreement to provide up to 2,000 additional terminals to its existing customer, Sistemas Tecnicos de Loterias del Estada S.A. (STL), in Madrid, Spain. STL has been a GTECH customer since 1990 and currently operates a network of approximately 6,000 terminals.
In commenting on the Argentina and Spain announcements, GTECH Chairman Victor Markowicz said, "Loteria National of Argentine is currently celebrating its 100th Anniversary and GTECH looks forward to helping it begin a new era of success. The Lottery's selection of on-line suppliers followed an extensive evaluation process, attesting to GTECH's ability to meet the rigorous requirements and diverse needs of its customers. GTECH now supplies the two largest lottery organizations in Argentina, and strengthens its presence in Latin America."
Regarding Spain, Markowicz remarked, "Meeting STL's expansion requirements is an exciting opportunity for GTECH. Spain has a rich tradition of public lotteries and STL is respected worldwide as one of the finest lottery organizations. We look forward to its continued success."
GTECH designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on five continents. In addition, GTECH provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently has contracts to supply and/or operate lottery systems for 26 U.S. customers and 36 jurisdictions outside of the United States. GTECH's lottery business employs approximately 3,300 people worldwide, including approximately 1,000 people in Rhode Island.
