GTECH ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACTS IN BRAZIL AND COLORADO

Company to sell additional equipment to customer in Singapore
WEST GREENWICH, RI, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) today announced new contracts with lotteries in Brazil and Colorado, and a product-sale agreement with its customer in Singapore.
 Brazil
RACIMEC, GTECH's partner in Brazil, has been selected to supply, operate and maintain an on-line lottery system for the state lottery of Minas Gerais. The lottery system, to be owned by RACIMEC, will use GTECH equipment and technology, including terminals, radio and satellite communications, and central system hardware and software. RACIMEC will operate the system from a data center located in the capital city of Belo Horizonte and, with support from GTECH, will provide a variety of services including installation, training, maintenance and marketing.
Located in southern Brazil, Minas Gerais has a population of approximately 17 million. Its lottery, Loteria Do Estado De Minas Gerais, expects to begin on-line sales in early 1995. Approximately 500 retailer terminals will be installed initially, with plans by the Lottery to expand to as many as 3,000 terminals over the term of the six- year contract.
Minas Gerais represents the second Brazilian state to select GTECH-supplied equipment and services for its on-line games. In August, GTECH announced that RACIMEC had signed a contract with the State of Paran to supply, operate and maintain the first on-line lottery system in Brazil. The system, which will use GTECH equipment and technology, will commence operations in December, 1994.
"This award is particularly significant because Minas Gerais' economy is the second largest in Brazil, and has become one of the fastest growing in the world. Combined with RACIMEC's recent contract award with the state of Paran, this contract gives us a strong presence in Brazil and may lead to other gaming opportunities for RACIMEC and GTECH," said GTECH Chairman Victor Markowicz.
 Colorado
GTECH has been selected as the apparent successful vendor to provide and operate an on-line lottery system for the Colorado Lottery. The award is conditional upon approval by the Colorado Lottery Commission, as well as the State Controller, and is subject to passage of required background investigations by the Lottery. GTECH has been supplying equipment and services to the Lottery under a contract awarded in October, 1988 which is due to expire in October, 1995. The new contract will be for a period of five years with options for two two-year extensions.
Under the new contract, GTECH will replace the existing 2,200 point- of-sale terminals and will provide Pro:Sys*, its newest gaming system. In addition, GTECH will continue to operate the Lottery from a data center in Pueblo, and will provide a variety of services including system installation, maintenance and marketing support.
"We've enjoyed sharing the many accomplishments of the Colorado State Lottery during the past five years," said GTECH Chairman and CEO, Guy B. Snowden. "We look forward to continued success by matching the innovative criteria set forth by the State with our advanced technology and services."
 Singapore
In Singapore, GTECH will sell 340 Spectra II retailer terminals and related software to Singapore Pools (Private) Limited. GTECH has been supplying on-line lottery equipment to Singapore Pools (Private) Limited since 1985.
GTECH designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on five continents. In addition, GTECH provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently has contracts to supply and/or operate lottery systems for 27 U.S. customers and 43 customers outside of the United States.
GTECH's lottery business employs approximately 3,700 people worldwide, including approximately 1,000 people in Rhode Island.
