GTECH ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACTS, EXTENSIONS AND OTHER NEWS
WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that the States of Illinois and Wisconsin have extended their contracts with the company to operate their on-line lottery systems until October 1997 and June 1996 respectively. Both contracts were due to expire in 1994. The Kansas State Lottery has also extended its contract with the company from June 1995 to June 1997. Included in the Kansas contract is a provision for GTECH to provide its Club Keno(R) game. Kansas will replace a twice-weekly Keno game currently being played, with GTECH's Club Keno in late October.
 ---
In a separate competitive bid process, GTECH has also been chosen to supply, operate and maintain an Instant Ticket Support System (ITSS) for the Illinois State Lottery. GTECH's ITSS brings the security and accountability of on-line networks to instant ticket games. The ITSS allows retailers to validate ticket packs, guard against fraudulent redemption and monitor inventory. Illinois plans an initial installation of 5,500 Dual Bar Code Readers and 4,500 GTECH Validation Terminals.
In addition, Wisconsin Lottery has exercised an option in its original Request for Proposal to have GTECH provide Dual Bar Code Readers for all on-line lottery retailers. The Wisconsin Lottery has approximately 2,674 lottery retailers at this time.
 ---
Following the section of GTECH to provide the central system for controlling the Alberta Lotteries' video lottery games in June, the system successfully went on-line Aug. 31, 1992. GTECH's video lottery system extends the security and integrity of an on-line lottery to video lottery terminals. The Alberta Lottery system represents the first fully optimized video lottery central system for GTECH.
 ---
GTECH also announced today that it had recently completed the redemption of all of its outstanding 12-3/4 percent Convertible Debentures ($11.8 million outstanding immediately prior to the date of redemption) and all of its outstanding Senior Preferred Stock, Series A (1,194,211 shares issued and outstanding immediately prior to the date of redemption).
