GTECH ANNOUNCES AGREEMENTS IN ASIA

 WEST GREENWICH, R.I., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) today announced agreements to provide equipment and services to two organizations in Asia.
 In Malaysia, GTECH has been selected, through an agreement in principle, to supply equipment and services to upgrade the on-line lottery system of Sports Toto Computer Sdn. Bhd. for use by Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Sports Toto). The contract is based on a product sales agreement. GTECH has been supplying services and equipment to Sports Toto under a contract awarded in 1989.
 Sports Toto currently operates approximately 1,000 on-line terminals throughout Malaysia. Under the new contract, GTECH will replace the existing central computer system and upgrade the software and communications equipment. An installation of approximately 500 additional terminals is planned with an option to install 500 more, for an overall total of approximately 2,000 on-line terminals operating throughout Malaysia.
 GTECH also announced that it has entered into an agreement in principle with Berjaya Lottery Management (HK) Ltd. for the sale by GTECH of an on-line lottery system for use by a city in southern China.
 Under the agreement, GTECH will sell a central computer system, communications equipment and terminals to Berjaya Lottery Management (HK) Ltd. Initially, 250 terminals will be installed, with plans to install an additional 250 thereafter, an option to expand to 1,000 terminals overall.
 In commenting on these announcements, GTECH Chairman Victor Markowicz, said, "GTECH is pleased to continue our relationship with Sports Toto, providing equipment for that lottery's expansion. We are also pleased with the opportunity to provide our services in China, a market with unique and significant potential."
