GTE PARTNERS WITH NISSAN AND DDI TO PROVIDE DIGITAL-CELLULAR SERVICES IN
 NAGOYA, JAPAN
 ATLANTA, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- At the inaugural meeting in Japan today, GTE (NYSE: GTE) became a partner in TU-KA Cellular Tokai, a Japan-based cellular-communications company formed by Nissan Motor Company Ltd. and DDI Corp. In 1994, the new company will begin operating a high-capacity, digital, cellular system expected to serve 200,000 customers by the year 2000.
 "We're excited to join with TU-KA Cellular Tokai to bring mobile telecommunications services to the Japanese consumer," said Tony Knight, vice president of GTE Telecommunications Products & Services- International (GTE TP&S-I). "The company's territory includes Nagoya, the fourth-largest city in Japan. GTE's participation represents the largest U.S. shareholding of TU-KA Cellular Tokai."
 This is GTE TP&S's third cellular partnership in Japan. GTE also owns 3 percent equity stakes in TU-KA Cellular Tokyo and TU-KA Phone Kansai.
 GTE's Tokyo-based GTE-Far East Services Ltd. has operated in Japan since 1974, and the company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. GTE is a worldwide leader in telecommunications, with combined revenues and sales in 1991 of $19.6 billion and net income of $1.6 billion. It is the largest U.S.-based local-telephone company and the second-largest cellular-service provider in the United States. Other GTE subsidiaries are leaders in government and defense communication systems and equipment, satellite-based telecommunications, information services, lighting products and precision materials.
