GTE CELLULAR TO OUTSOURCE WITH ALLTEL'S SYSTEMATICS

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ALLTEL Corporation (NYSE: AT) announced today that its Systematics subsidiary has signed a 10-year agreement with GTE Telecommunications Products and Services Group to outsource GTE's cellular billing.
The agreement includes customization of Systematics' Virtuoso(TM) software to meet GTE's specific needs, including conversion of GTE's cellular subscribers to the new system. The agreement calls for Systematics to process all customer service records and billing and provide post-processing services.
According to Terry Parker, president of GTE Telecommunications Products and Services, "One key to success in the cellular industry is to not only have the ability to process customers' accounts in a timely and accurate manner, but to have the flexibility to be responsive to their needs with creative new options. We believe Systematics not only has the best software -- but also the outsourcing expertise -- to help us provide an outstanding level of customer service."
GTE's cellular billing systems, currently based on two different software and hardware platforms, will be consolidated in Systematics' new technology center in Little Rock, Ark., where the hardware, system software and operational support will be housed.
Joe Ford, ALLTEL chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Over the past few years, ALLTEL has been carefully developing the telecommunications portion of its outsourcing business. We believe this contract with GTE -- which alone represents more than 10 percent of the nation's cellular information processing market -- is an important milestone in the growth of that business."
GTE (NYSE: GTE), through two subsidiaries -- GTE Mobilnet, Inc., a wholly owned company, and Contel Cellular, Inc., a 90 percent indirectly owned company -- serves more than one million customers and some 53 million cellular "POPs" across the United States. GTE is the fourth- largest publicly owned telecommunications company in the world.
Systematics, with clients in 49 states and 30 countries outside the United States, provides information processing management, outsourcing services and software to the financial and telecommunications industries.
