GTE APPOINTS THREE KEY WEST AREA POSITIONS

 THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE West Area President Larry Sparrow today announced the appointment of three key executives -- Jorge Jackson will become West Area vice president-public affairs, effective immediately. Tim McCallion has been named West Area vice president-regulatory and governmental affairs, and Ron Pejsa was named to the position of West Area vice president-human resources, effective Oct. 24.
 "These appointments are designed to build on GTE West Area's unique strengths and enhance our ability to pursue evolving strategic opportunities throughout our serving area," said Sparrow. "Each of these individuals has played a key role in helping GTE achieve many objectives, and each is uniquely qualified for the challenges ahead."
 Jackson is no stranger to Southern California. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from California State University, Los Angeles. He has been vice president-public affairs for GTE's South Area since 1988. Prior to that, he served as corporate social responsibility director for GTE's worldwide operations in Stamford, Conn. Jackson began his GTE public affairs career in 1971 with GTE California and has held numerous progressively responsible, positions, including public affairs director for GTE Hawaiian Tel.
 McCallion has served as GTE Telephone Operations director-revenue and earnings management/west since 1989. Prior to that, he was director-external affairs for GTE California.
 During his 18-year career with GTE, McCallion has been revenue and earnings director for GTE Hawaiian Telephone, revenue planning manager with GTE Service Corp. in Stamford, and manager-revenue planning for GTE Midwestern Telephone Operations.
 McCallion has a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's of business administration from Gannon University.
 Pejsa has been assistant GTE Telops vice president-employee relations/organizational development since 1991. Prior to that, he was vice president of human resources for Contel Federal Systems in Chantilly, Va.
 Before joining Contel, Pejsa spent nine years with the General Electric Co. and 10 years with Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corp. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University.

 Jackson will be staying in Sherman Oaks, Calif., with his wife, Gloria. McCallion lives in Agoura, Calif., with his wife Anne, and their two sons, Kevin and Keith. Pejsa will be relocating to Thousand Oaks, with his wife, Paula. The Pejsas have four children, Kristen, Jason, Scott and Ross.
 GTE California provides a wide range of telecommunications services to 3.1 million customers in 330 communities throughout the state.
