GT gets rights to 3D game, quake.

NEW YORK - GT Interactive Software said it has secured worldwide publishing rights to id Software's fast-paced 3D action game, Quake, due out later this year.

Under the agreement, GT Interactive will have the rights to gaming hardware systems including PC and Macintosh, as well as 32- and 64-bit platforms.

In addition, the company will retain all shareware version rights.

"Quake will do to the gaming world today what Doom did two years ago - set a new standard for computer gaming," said Jay Wilbur, business manager at id Software. "We also believe it will be distributed to retail by the best team in the business - GT Interactive."

GT Interactive and id Software have previously established retail agreements for id titles including Wolfensein 3D, DOOM II, The Ultimate DOOM, and HEXEN - Beyond Heretic.
