GT Interactive Software signs id Software's highly anticipated 'QUAKE'; GT to Publish 'Quake' for all gaming hardware systems.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 1996--Expanding its offering of popular titles from id Software, GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) announced today it has secured worldwide publishing rights to one of the industry's most highly anticipated games, id Software's Quake. The agreement includes rights to all gaming hardware systems, including IBM-compatible and Macintosh computers as well as 32- and 64-bit gaming platforms. GT Interactive expects to introduce its first Quake title this fall.

GT Interactive has established a successful relationship with id Software through its publishing and retail distribution agreements for such best-selling titles as Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM II, The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II for Macintosh and most recently, HEXEN -- Beyond Heretic. id retains shareware version rights as well as rights to full versions of Quake purchased directly from id.

Quake is being heralded by computer game reviewers and enthusiasts as one of the most highly anticipated computer games of all time. The fast-paced, action-filled title, which will feature true 3D environments and texture-mapped polygonal characters, will also use client server technology for multiplayer modem and network play. Quake also features all new core technology--the first time an id Software title has been created with new core technology since its 1993 release, DOOM.
