GSA SELECTS NEW CARROLLTON SITE FOR IRS HEADQUARTERS CONSOLIDATION
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A 30-acre site at the New Carrollton Metro Station has been selected by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) as the "preferred site" for a 1.2 million gross square foot U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) headquarters building in Prince George's County, Md.
The property -- bounded by Harkins and Ellin roads -- is part of the "Metroview" development owned by Vingarden Associates.
The government expects to acquire the site for about $20.4 million and will take title once soil tests and an environmental impact study are completed sometime next summer.
GSA officials note that if all goes as scheduled, GSA expects to award a design and construction contract for the building next October. Completion of the project is targeted for early 1997, when the IRS will move about 4,400 employee into the building from several leased locations in Washington.
