GSA REACHES AGREEMENT WITH LOTUS ON MAS

WASHINGTON, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced it has reached agreement with Lotus Development Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: LOTS) to continue including their software products on GSA's Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) contracts resulting in cost savings to the federal government.
This agreement, which runs through Aug. 31, 1993, features schedule price decreases of $62, $51 and $55, respectively, from last year's schedule prices for such popular "shrink wrap" spreadsheet packages as Lotus 1-2-3 versions 3.4, 2.4 and 1.1. Ongoing contract negotiations to include Lotus products on the MAS program through March 31, 1994, are expected to be concluded before this expiration date.
GSA's new MAS contracts began on April 1, 1993. Software products from several major manufacturers were not included in these contract awards because the agency was not satisfied that schedule contract prices were reasonable. Even though the federal government buys large quantities of microcomputer software products under the MAS program, with last year's purchases exceeding $100 million, schedule prices were higher than the prices paid by several state governments and some smaller commercial buyers. GSA is continuing to negotiate MAS contracts with software manufacturers and schedule offerors.
Agreements to include Lotus products were reached with Falcon Microsystems, Inc., of Landover, Md., and Government Technology Services, Inc. (GTSI), of Chantilly, Va. Agreements with additional distributors to include Lotus products on their MAS contracts are expected to be reached within the next week.
