GRUMMAN GETS ORDER FOR FOUR SURVEILLANCE AIRCRAFT FROM TAIWAN

BETHPAGE, N.Y., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Grumman Corporation (NYSE: GQ) announced today that Taiwan will purchase four all-weather Hawkeye E-2T Airborne Early Warning Command & Control aircraft. The E-2T is similar to the latest version of Grumman's E-2C aircraft which includes new engines and improved radar. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 1994.
The procurement of these aircraft is a combination foreign military sale and commercial purchase with a total value of over $700 million.
The E-2C Hawkeye has been in active service with the U.S. Navy since 1973. With its distinctive 24-foot diameter rotating radome and over 12,000 pounds of sophisticated electronic equipment, the E-2C can monitor six million cubic miles of air space and more than 150,000 square miles of ocean surface for the presence of aircraft, missiles, ships, and fixed targets.
The flight crew consists of two pilots and three system operators: a radar operator, air control operator, and combat information center operator.
E-2C's are now operational in Japan, Egypt, Israel and Singapore. Additional purchases are anticipated from several of these countries. Grumman also expects sales to countries in Europe, the Far East, and Southeast Asia. About 2,400 people work on the E-2C program at Grumman.
Grumman Corporation is best known as a leading international aircraft and aerospace company. Other businesses range from sophisticated integrated information and electronics systems to aluminum walk-in vans. Headquartered in Bethpage, Grumman employs 19,000 people. Revenues were $3.5 billion in 1992.
