GRUEVSKI FLEES TO BUDAPEST, FILES REQUEST FOR POLITICAL ASYLUM, VOWS TO STAY LOYAL TO MACEDONIAN CAUSE.
Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has fled to Hungary and has claimed political asylum from the Hungarian authorities.
"In the past several days, I have received countless death threats. I am in Budapest now and have request political asylum from the Hungarian authorities. I will always stay loyal to Macedonia's cause. I will never turn off that path," former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said in a Facebook post Tuesday.
Before he revealed his location on Facebook, speculations spread that Gruevski had left Macedonia several days earlier and went either to Hungary or Turkey.
At a press conference Tuesday, Dimce Arsovski of VMRO-DPMNE said the party was not in touch with Nikola Gruevski and had no information where he was. Asked by reporters whether they saw Gruevski's Facebook post and whether they knew anything about it, Arsovski denied having any information. He also said he didn't know whether it was true that Gruevski was being sent death threats yet believed that was truly the case.
