 GROOME ELECTED TO SMITHKLINE BEECHAM BOARD
 PHILADELPHIA, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Harry Groome, chairman of


SmithKline Beecham's Consumer Brands business, has been elected to the board of directors of SmithKline Beecham (NYSE: SBH), it was announced today.
 Groome, 54, took his present position May 1, 1992. Prior to that he served as president of SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories.
 Groome has served in many important roles in his 26 years with the company, including vice president, International Operations, Proprietary and Cosmetic Products; and vice president/area director-Latin America, Pharmaceuticals. He was appointed vice president, Marketing-U.S. Pharmaceuticals in 1979 and was named president of Clinical Laboratories in 1985.
 Born in Philadelphia, Groome holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is past president of the American Clinical Laboratory Association, a member of the board of directors of Allergan, Inc., and a chapter director of the Nature Conservancy.
