GRITICAL; Roads bosses beg for salt as Scotland slithers back to work.

Byline: Ben Spencer

ROAD bosses were forced to beg for grit to keep their icebound roads open yesterday.

Stocks dwindled to just a tiny pile in Fife, leading the council to issue a plea.

Last night, their gritters were back in action but other authorities reported that their supplies were running low.

It raised fears of new chaos on the roads as Scots headed back to work this morning - and sparked a row over the true level of stocks.
