GREEN ISLE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES, INC. REPORTS THAT METROPOLITAN COUNCIL TERMINATES REQUIREMENT TO BUILD COMPOST FACILITY

HOPKINS, Minn., May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Isle Environmental Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: GIES) announced today that the Twin Cities Metropolitan Council, a regulatory body that oversees governmental agencies within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, including municipalities, counties, and special districts, has suspended the condition requiring construction of a compost facility in order that the company continue receiving waste at its waste processing plant in Eden Prairie, Minn. The action also removes the requirement that the waste processing facility meet a 70 percent abatement level as long as the company continues to make a good faith effort to maximize abatement at the facility.
James Taylor, president and chief executive officer, said, "We are pleased with the Metropolitan Council's decision. This removes a significant uncertainty on our ability to continue operation and clears the way for us to proceed with a debt restructuring on the loan underlying the Eden Prairie waste processing facility."
Taylor added, "We have worked closely with the regulatory authorities over the last two years to improve abatement results and have made a good faith effort to meet regulatory requirements. Eden Prairie's production of RDF fuel in pellet/cube form for energy generation is a state-of-the-art approach to waste processing that includes the removal of recyclable items. Eden Prairie was the first of such large scale facilities in the United States and the action of the Metropolitan Council allows us to continue to maximize the re-use of a portion of Hennepin County's solid waste stream."
Headquartered in Hopkins, the company owns and operates a waste processing and recycling facility in Eden Prairie, and manages and operates a recycling and composting facility in Pembroke Pines, Fla. The company also manufactures computer disk drive spindles, machined medical products, other machined items and plastic refuse containers.
