GREAT WESTERN TO MAKE $50,000 GRANT TO AMERICAN RED CROSS
FOR DISASTER RELIEF IN SOUTH FLORIDA
LAKE WORTH, Fla., Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Great Western Bank has announced that it will provide an immediate grant of $50,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief to victims of Hurricane Andrew. The grant will be used by American Red Cross units to help fund immediate relief efforts in the areas most affected by the storm.
"Everyone at Great Western understands the urgent need to help the communities and people in need as a result of this terrible disaster in Florida," said James F. Montgomery, chairman and chief executive. "All of us want to help our depositors, borrowers, employees, and other Floridians who have been affected."
Ronald M. Finch, senior vice president for Florida, said that the $50,000 is the first major step in a series of efforts to assist South Florida residents affected by the hurricane. "Great Western also plans to explore other ways to assist in the rebuilding of affected areas of South Florida in the coming weeks," said Finch.
Great Western, Florida's largest savings institution, has taken immediate steps to bring its affected ATM locations back on-line and to reopen its branches as quickly as possible. "We know access to personal funds and financial services will be an immediate consideration for many people," said Finch.
The company said its employees, as well as many of the bank's customers, are responding generously by donating food and other supplies through the bank's branch network. Great Western will provide details of these activities in the days to come.
Great Western Bank is a subsidiary of Great Western Financial Corp. (NYSE: GWF), a diversified financial services company with assets of more than $38 billion.
