Safety for customers and employees was the major factor in the decision to close the branches. As conditions improve, branches will be reopened.
"Great Western has a long-standing commitment to serving communities in every area of Los Angeles," said John F. Maher, president and chief operating officer of Great Western Financial Corp. "The tragic events of the past few days in no way diminish our dedication to serving all the people of Los Angeles. Great Western will continue to be a leading provider of financial services and home mortgage loans in these communities."
Great Western has contacted local officials to offer its assistance in revitalizing communities in the aftermath of the devastation that has occurred in recent days.
No major damage has been reported at Great Western Bank branches, except at a Los Angeles branch where there was some fire and general damage. A few additional branches have received minor damage.
