GREAT WESTERN NAMED ONE OF 100 BEST U.S. COMPANIES
FOR WORKING MOTHERS BY WORKING MOTHER MAGAZINE
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Great Western Bank announced today that it has been named one of the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" in 1992 by Working Mother magazine.
In selecting Great Western, the magazine noted that nearly 60 percent of the top jobs at Great Western -- those that pay the highest salaries -- are held by women. Additionally, more than 700 women have participated in the bank's management-development seminars, which help managers improve supervisory skills and develop leadership qualities.
The company also opened an on-site employee child care center at its headquarters in Chatsworth earlier this year. The center is designed to provide high-quality, convenient toddler and preschool care and is staffed by experts in child development from Child and Family Services, a non-profit organization.
"As the number of dual-income and single-parent families continues to grow, so does the need for quality child care," said Toby Lombardi, senior vice president, Human Resources, Great Western. "By providing a facility on our campus, we hope to meet the child care needs of our employees and, at the same time, enable them to become more productive."
Working Mother also cited the many "family friendly" services offered by the company, such as an on-site fitness center, prenatal health program, cholesterol and cancer screening, weight management and smoking-cessation training, and preretirement planning.
The Working Mother 100 are selected and ranked in categories using the following criteria: pay, opportunities for advancement, support for child care, and family-friendly benefits such as job- protected leave for childbirth, adoption aid, and flextime and part- time employment. This is the seventh such survey conducted by the magazine.
Great Western Bank is the principal subsidiary of Great Western Financial Corp. (NYSE: GWF), a diversified financial services company. With assets of more than $38 billion, Great Western operated more than 1,100 mortgage lending, retail banking, and consumer finance offices in 31 states.
