WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerson Kampen,

chairman, president and chief executive officer of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE: GLK), today announced that the company has reached an agreement in principle to purchase the assets and business of Ward Blenkinsop & Company Limited from Shell. Kampen commented, "Ward Blenkinsop fits precisely into Great Lakes' long range growth strategies. This business involves complex chemistry centering around phosgene compounds which Great Lakes utilizes extensively at several plant sites to produce pharmaceutical and agricultural intermediates. The employee count currently stands at 230. Kampen concluded, "We believe this move complements Great Lakes on several fronts. Not only will it augment our European manufacturing infrastructure, but will broaden our technological base in new and existing markets."
