GREAT LAKES' BIO-LAB SUBSIDIARY AGREES TO PURCHASE AQUACHEM

 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerson Kampen, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (NYSE: GLK) today announced that the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Bio-Lab, Inc., has signed a letter of intent to acquire the AquaChem Swimming Pool Chemicals Division of Grow Group, Inc. The transaction, subject to approval by both boards of directors, should be completed in the next 30 days.
 Kampen stated, "This acquisition represents another important move to augmenting Great Lakes' place in the billion dollar plus swimming pool and spa market. In addition to contributing approximately $50 million in revenues, AquaChem adds a complete line of well-established swimming pool and spa chemicals directed at the mass market. Great Lakes' water treatment chemicals business, combining sales to recreational and industrial markets, now totals approximately $400 million."
 Headquartered in Decatur, Ga., Bio-Lab is a leading formulator and packager of chemicals for swimming pools and spas with one of the largest distributor networks in the United States.
