GRASS ROOTS FOR TIMBER: BILL CLINTON BETRAYED THE WORKING PEOPLE OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WHEN HE CHOSE OPTION 9!
OLYMPIA, Wash., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Forest community leaders will speak out against the Option 9 Forest Plan at a press conference on Oct. 1 at 11:30 a.m., Grass Roots For Timber announced today. Several grass roots special events are planned to dramatize the presidential betrayal felt by hardworking families of the Pacific Northwest. The press conference will take place outside of Worthington Convention Center at St. Martin's College in Lacey, Wash. Formal hearings are scheduled from 1 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. inside the convention center. The Option 9 Forest Plan is based on many flawed assumptions, making it neither balanced nor implementable. "The president promised us a balanced solution to the crisis. Option 9 is nothing more than a big charade," said Dan Wood of The Umbrella Group, a grass roots coalition of natural resource and private property groups based in Hoquiam. "We have not rolled over and died in timber communities. The administration lied to us and that's been very painful, but we have truth and common sense on our side. We will fight for a real answer to the timber crisis." "This plan is an insult to me, my family and my community," professed Renee Lynch, interim director of Harbor Churches Timber Outreach Program in Hoquiam. "This poorly crafted option will prompt higher lumber and housing prices, cause double digit unemployment, reduce revenues to schools and social services, force local governments to implement sweeping tax increases and stall the nation's fragile economic recovery. Option 9 is not an option at all." -0- 9/28/93 /CONTACT: Dena Pinard of the Evergreen Partnership, 206-922-6640, or after hours, 206-781-9339, or cellular on day of press conference, 206-381-9084, for Grass Roots For Timber/
