GRAPHIC INDUSTRIES SIGNS JOINT VENTURE WITH MAJOR PRINTER IN MEXICO

ATLANTA, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Graphic Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: GRPH), a leading full-service printing and graphic communications company, has entered into a joint venture with Mexico's Artes Graficas Integradas, Inc de C.V. (Agisa), a major Mexican printing company.
The agreement, recently signed in Monterey, Mexico, where Agisa is based, was announced by Mark C. Pope IV, president and chief operating officer of Graphic.
"This is an important step in Graphic's expansion into the global market," Pope said. "We anticipate our new relationship with Agisa will produce significant benefits in the near future and will position our company to take full advantage of the North American Free Trade Agreement."
Ignacio Narro Etchegaray, president of Agisa, said, "A strategic alliance like the one we have signed with Graphic signifies the ability to offer our market a product with the best service, quality and price."
The agreement is expected to facilitate Graphic's penetration of the growing Mexican market, while Agisa gains significant benefits through Graphic's advanced technology. Plants of the two companies will be linked by telecommunications for exchange of data for the most efficient and cost effective production and delivery or orders by both Agisa and Graphic.
Agisa's predecessor company, Artigraf, Inc., was founded in 1977 and specialized in the printing of folding boxes. The company also had a small commercial color printing operation. In 1982, the two divisions split and Agisa moved into the production of high quality color printing. Agisa's modern facility in Monterey relies on sophisticated printing equipment and automated finishing machinery.
Graphic also had its beginning with a predecessor company, Williams Printing Company of Atlanta, in 1922. Graphic made its initial public offering of stock in December 1983, and today its operations include 17 commercial printing companies and a reprographics division with 14 locations serving major markets and customers throughout the United States. Graphic ranks among the top 25 commercial printing companies in North America.
