GRAPHIC CONTROLS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Graphic Controls Corporation is the leading manufacturer and marketer of industrial and medical recording charts. The Company, with international distributors and over 160 directs sales personnel, manufactures and markets its products worldwide.
Although the core of the Company's business has been the manufacture and sale of industrial recording charts, the Company extended its product line over the years by developing other non-reusable data recording and monitoring devices and supplies manufactured through similar processes or marketed to a similar customer base. In 1973, in response to technological advances in chart recording instruments, the Company began producing heat sensitive thermal charts for use with non-ink thermal recording instruments. In 1976, the Company acquired a disposable medical electrode manufacturer to expand the product line offered to its medical marketing network. In 1981, the Company began International production and sales of Fetal Scalp electrodes, the first of an extensive product line.
Graphic Controls was incorporated in New York in 1957 as the successor to six separate companies. Its earliest predecessor began operations in 1909. Graphic Controls was independent and publicly owned until February, 1978 when the company was purchased by The Times Mirror Company (NYSE: TMC) in Los Angeles.
In late 1986 the officers of the Corporation, Brentwood Associates of California, and other private investors, made a leveraged buyout of the Company from Times Mirror.
