GRANT/TRIBUNE SIGNS WITH WALT DISNEY TELEVISION
 TO DEVELOP, PRODUCE TELEVISION PROGRAMMING
LOS ANGELES, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Grant/Tribune Productions (GTP):
Grant/Tribune Productions has signed an agreement with Walt Disney Television to develop and produce television programming. It was jointly announced by Rich Frank, president, The Walt Disney Studios, and B. Donald "Bud" Grant, chief executive officer of Grant/Tribune Productions.
Under the terms of the agreement, Grant/Tribune Productions, an independent production company formed in 1988 as a joint venture between Bud Grant Productions and Tribune Broadcasting Co., will develop and produce a wide variety of television programming for all forms of distribution, including network, syndication and cable, and including series, movies-of-the-week and specials. The Walt Disney Studios will have the option of first refusal on all projects developed by GTP on a non-exclusive basis.
In making the announcement, Frank said, "Bud Grant and GTP have a track record in network television that will make this partnership an extremely valuable one. We're very pleased they will be joining our creative team."
Grant added, "I'm delighted with our new association with The Walt Disney Studios, the most respected company in the business. We're looking forward to a long and productive collaboration."
GTP projects currently in production, and to which Disney will acquire distribution rights, include the CBS series, "Cutters," as well as two pilots in co-production with CBS Entertainment, "Dirty Laundry," with Arleen Sorkin, and "Splitting the Difference," with Alex Rocco. Also included will be projects developed by producers Allan Burns ("The Mary Tyler Moore Show") and Burt Metcalfe ("M.A.S.H."), who are currently allied with GTP.
Since its creation in 1988, GTP has produced "Sydney," a half- hour comedy starring Valerie Bertinelli, and the highly rated CBS special, "I Love Lucy: The Very First Show," which was nominated for an Emmy Award. In association with KTLA-TV, GTP also produced the Emmy Award-winning "The Late Mr. Pete Show."
Prior to creating GTP, Grant had served as president, CBS Entertainment Division since 1980, as well as in a variety of programming positions since 1972 at the network. Grant had previously spent 14 years at NBC, beginning in 1956 in NBC's executive training program and ultimately as National Director of Daytime Programs.
Tribune Broadcasting, a wholly owned subidiary of Tribune Co. (NYSE: TRB), owns six television stations and four radio stations, and produces and distributes radio and television programming.
Walt Disney Television is a production banner for The Walt Disney Studios, which is a business segment of The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).
