       GRANITE LOW BIDDER ON $50 MILLION TEXAS HIGHWAY JOB
    WATSONVILLE, Calif.,  Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Granite Construction Inc. (NASDAQ: GCCO) announced today that it had submitted the apparent low bid of $50.8 million for the reconstruction of a 6.1 mile stretch of Interstate 30 in Rockwall County, near Dallas.
    The project entails widening I-30 from four lanes to six and replacing seven existing bridges with five new structures from Chaha Road to State Highway 205.  The job will encompass approximately 180,000 cubic yards of paving concrete, 240,000 tons of aggregate base and asphalt paving, 325,000 cubic yards of excavation and 400,000 square feet of bridge deck.
    The contract, which is expected to be awarded later this week, will take approximately three years to complete.  Granite is presently working on two other infrastructure projects in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, a $28 million storm water detention project for the City of Dallas and a $44 million reconstruction effort on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth.
    Granite Construction is one of the largest heavy civil contractors in the United States, focusing on the construction of highways, airports, mass transit systems and other infrastructure-related projects.  The company's stock is traded in the NASDAQ-National Market System under the symbol GCCO.
