GRANITE CONSTRUCTION AWARDED $27.5 MILLION CONTRACT TO MODIFY TEXAS DAM

 WATSONVILLE, Calif., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Granite Construction Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: GCCO) announced today that it had been awarded a contract valued at nearly $27.5 million by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for spillway modifications and freeboard restoration to the Sam Rayburn Dam on the Angelina River, about 150 miles northeast of Houston.
 The scope of the work entails the removal of the existing weir and replacing it with a new labyrinth weir and concrete spillway that will include a new approach channel and a new discharge channel. The spillway construction will include 2.5 million cubic yards of excavation, 55,000 cubic yards of structure concrete and 300,000 square feet of slurry wall construction.
 In addition to the new weir and spillway, the contract calls for raising the height of the existing earthen dam approximately three feet by constructing a 12,000-foot-long concrete parapet wall atop the existing dam. Construction is expected to start early next month and take about 26 months to complete.
