GRANITE CONSTRUCTION AWARDED $105.5 MILLION HIGHWAY CONTRACT IN TEXAS

 WATSONVILLE, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Granite Construction Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: GCCO) announced today that the company has been awarded a $105.5 million contract by the Texas Department of Transportation to rebuild a section of U.S. 75, also known as the North Central Expressway, in Dallas. The project is the largest highway construction contract in Texas history and is the largest single contract the company has ever been awarded. The company briefly mentioned the award of this contract in a press release last week.
 The project entails the complete removal of a two-mile section of the existing four-lane freeway and replacing it with a depressed, six-lane freeway. The project also includes the removal and replacement of five bridges and two, two-lane frontage roads. Moreover, the contract calls for constructing a half-a-million square feet of retaining walls as well as the installation of extensive underground utilities and irrigation and landscaping systems. The project will require 1.2 million cubic yards of excavation, 220,000 tons of asphalt base, 100,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement and 90,000 square feet of bridge deck. Construction is scheduled to start in September and take approximately 67 months to complete.
