GRAND TRAVERSE RESORT ANNOUNCES REDUCTION OF GOLF RATES

ACME, Mich., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Traverse Resort today announced it is restructuring golf fees for its two championship golf courses, The Bear, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and Spruce Run, designed by Bill Newcomb. The restructuring will lower some fees by more than 30 percent.
"This unprecedented restructuring of golf rates, in the middle of our peak season, is a direct result of listening to our guests and area residents," said Kim Chappell, managing director. "We want to be renown for having the finest golf experience in the Midwest, not for having the most intimidating prices. We're confident that these new fees will make it possible for more visiting and local golfers to play our tournament- caliber championship courses more often, and not just as a once-in-a- lifetime experience."
The Bear and Spruce Run were two of the first designer courses in northern Michigan. The Bear has been credited by some with sparking the explosion of new golf course construction in northern Michigan, following its opening in 1985.
"We've reduced our highest rate from $140 down to $100," said Ken Hornyak, PGA Professional and the resort's director of recreation. "We've also lowered our lowest rate from $35 down to $30. Although we're lowering fees, we're not lowering service. Now more golfers will be able to see for themselves just how special The Bear and Spruce Run really are."
