GRAND PRIX PROMOTERS ANNOUNCE 'AM RADIO' SPONSOR WWJ NEWSRADIO 950 IS DETROIT'S NEW HOME FOR INDYCAR RACING

DETROIT, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Motormarketing International of Detroit, Inc. (MMI), announced today that WWJ Newsradio 950 will become the official "AM Radio" sponsor for the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix.
"We are very pleased to have our event associated with a radio station of WWJ's caliber," stated Bud Stanner, president of MMI. "Their recent history in sports broadcasting (WWJ is the radio home of Detroit's Lions & Pistons and the University of Michigan's basketball & football teams) and the fact that they own the broadcast rights to our sports' biggest event -- the Indianapolis 500 -- are elements that couldn't be ignored."
As the official "AM Radio" sponsor for the race, WWJ will become one of the event's primary promotional partners. WWJ's commitment to the weekend also includes the broadcasting of the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix IndyCar race on Sunday, June 12, and the Motor City 100 Trans- Am race, scheduled for Saturday, June 11. Both races will be broadcast live and in their entirety.
Roger Nadel, vice president and general manager of WWJ, commented, "WWJ is proud to be an official sponsor of the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix. This is a wonderful community event that will only grow under the new management of MMI."
In a separate but related development, WWJ reached an agreement with Page Productions -- Owner of the Kmart IndyCar Radio Network -- to carry additional IndyCar races during the course of the season. This deal includes the live broadcast of the Michigan 500 and at least seven other IndyCar races.
Paul Page, president of Page Productions, Inc., said, "We're excited about WWJ because it means far greater exposure for our network in Detroit, which is the headquarter city of IndyCar and our network title sponsor, Kmart."
Nadel added, "We intend to work diligently to enhance the broadcast coverage of this event, as well as with the coverage of IndyCar racing in general through our new partnership with Page Productions."
The 1994 ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix weekend is scheduled for June 10-12 at the Raceway on Belle Isle Park. The race is the sixth stop on the PPG IndyCar World Series Schedule. For ticket information, call 313-259-7749.
