GRANADA AND UNIVERSAL JOIN FORCES ON FEATURE FILM VERSION OF
GRANADA'S ACCLAIMED POLICE THRILLER, 'PRIME SUSPECT'
NEW YORK, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Granada Film and Television is joining forces with Universal Pictures to make a feature film based on Granada's award-winning miniseries, "Prime Suspect," it was announced by Steve Morrison, program controller of Granada Film and Television, Tom Pollock, chairman of the MCA Motion Picture Group, and Fred Bernstein, senior vice president of the MCA Motion Picture Group.
Tom Topor ("The Accused," "Nuts") is writing the script for the police thriller, which is set in the United States. Granada Film will produce the picture and Universal will distribute it worldwide.
"Prime Suspect," which aired in the United States on PBS earlier this year, has received wide critical acclaim. It recently won the best-of-festival honor at the 13th Banff Television Festival, as well as the British Academy Award for best drama serial.
"'Prime Suspect' underscores our commitment to feature films," Morrison stated, "and perfectly illustrates the synergies within Granada for developing and producing high quality product for television and theatrical release."
Bernstein commented: "We are delighted to be working with Steve Morrison and Granada to bring 'Prime Suspect' to the screen. It is a compelling drama and personal story which we believe will entertain audiences the world over."
