GRAMMIES HONOR THE MEN BEHIND THE SONGS; L.A. REID AND BABYFACE RECEIVE PRODUCER AND SONGWRITING NOMINATIONS

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Super songwriters/producers Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds have been twice nominated for the 35th Annual Grammy Awards this year, it was announced today by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. The duo received nominations in the categories of both Producer of the Year and Best R&B Song for "End of the Road," which they wrote and produced with longtime collaborator Daryl Simmons.
The historic single "End of the Road," performed by the Grammy- winning quartet Boyz II Men reigned at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 100 Singles chart for a phenomenal 13 weeks, breaking Elvis Presley's 36-year-old record for a No. 1 pop single and selling more than 2 million copies. In addition to Boyz II Men, this year, the duo (with Simmons) has lent its creative production and songwriting talents to such artists as TLC, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Johnny Gill, After 7 and Shanice. They have also worked with a diverse number of recording luminaries, including Pebbles, Paula Abdul, The Boys, The Whispers, Karyn White, Sheena Easton, The Jacksons, Damian Dame and Highland Place Mobsters, among others.
Additionally LaFace group TLC's platinum pop/R&B anthem "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," from the group's near-double platinum debut "Ooooooohhh ... On the TLC Tip," is nominated in the Best R&B Song category for songwriters Dallas Austin and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
No strangers to No. 1 and Top 10 chart singles and albums, L.A. and Babyface, who were nominated for Grammies in both 1989 and 1991, won initial acclaim as one of the most accomplished songwriting/production teams in modern pop history. The duo now serves as co-presidents of LaFace Records, bringing its Midas touch to the label's burgeoning roster of artists.
The 35th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. EST on CBS on Feb. 24.
