GRACO ANNOUNCES FREE RETROFIT KIT FOR WALKER ACCESSORY TRAY TO PREVENT RISK OF INJURY DUE TO SMALL PARTS

GRACO ANNOUNCES FREE RETROFIT KIT FOR WALKER ACCESSORY TRAY
TO PREVENT RISK OF INJURY DUE TO SMALL PARTS
WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Graco Children's Products, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), reported today that a play tray sold as an accessory for Graco walker model 45537 could pose a small-parts hazard under certain conditions.
All of the affected walker play tray units were sold before September of 1991. The firm has determined that some children may be able to remove the soft plastic "music buttons" on the accessory musical tray. The small part, which results from removing the buttons, could be ingested or cause a choking hazard. Graco has received 14 reports of removal, including two incidents of near choking. There have been no reports of permanent or serious injury as a result of these incidents.
Graco Tot Wheels II Walkers with the play tray designated by the model number 45537 are the only walkers affected. The music button pad with nine numbers on these walkers is black. Approximately 11,000 of these walkers are believed to be in use by consumers.
No other Graco walker, walker with play tray or walker with play gym is involved.
Because the company said it desires to protect children from any possible injury, a free, easy-to-use kit is being offered to consumers who have Graco walkers which were supplied with play trays. All owners of Graco brand walkers with play trays are advised to immediately check to see if the music buttons on their play tray are black. If they are, consumers should immediately call 800-338-1206 for a free retrofit kit. Again, no other walkers or walker accessories are involved.
Until the kit arrives and is installed, consumers should not use their walker with the play tray installed.
Further information may be obtained by writing Graco Children's Products Inc., P.O. Box 303, Elverson, Pa., 19520.
NOTE: To report an unsafe consumer product or product-related injury, consumers may call the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's toll-free hotline at 800-638-2772. A teletypewriter for the hearing- impaired is available at 800-638-8720; the Maryland TTY number is 800-492-8104.
