GRACECARE HEALTH SYSTEMS IN PACT WITH
 PREFERRED CHOICE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GraceCare Health Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: GCHS; GCHSW; GCHSU), an operator of "Post Acute Programs" for the care and treatment of ventilator dependent, pulmonary and other special care patients, today announced an agreement with Preferred Choice Management Systems, Inc., a managed care preferred provider organizations PPO headquartered in New York. Preferred Choice Management Systems provides health care services to its members (subscribers) in the five boroughs of New York as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties in Long Island, N.Y. and Northern New Jersey.
Its network consists of over 3,600 board certified/board eligible physicians, as well as 350 diagnostic facilities and laboratory locations. Preferred Choice presently has over one million subscribers, projected to grow to 2-3 million by the end of 1993.
Under the terms of the agreement, GraceCare's "Post Acute Programs" will be designated "Centers of Excellence" by Preferred Choice and Preferred Choice will refer patients requiring special care treatment to facilities operated by GraceCare as an alternative to continued acute hospitalization.
James M. Foulke, president and chief executive officer of GraceCare Health Systems, said that this agreement with Preferred Choice is the first in a number of contracts being negotiated with health care provider organizations such as PPO's and HMO's as well as health insurers. "Our Post Acute Programs are of substantial benefit to these organizations," Foulke said, "since it has been demonstrated that GraceCare can provide service to patients who require specialized treatment at a much lower cost than similar treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU) in a hospital."
GraceCare Health Systems, Inc. develops and operates Post Acute Programs for the treatment of ventilator, pulmonary, coma and other medically complex patients. These programs, designed for the managed care industry, offer an alternative to extended acute hospitalization.
