 GRACE PUTS NEW PRODUCT LINE MANAGEMENT IN PLACE;
 FOUR NEW HEADS OF GLOBAL SPECIALTY CHEMICALS BUSINESSES NAMED
 BOCA RATON, Fla., April 30 /PRNewswire/ --In a sweeping move to implement its recently announced global strategic plan, W. R. Grace & Co. (NYSE: GRA) today appointed four worldwide product heads in core specialty chemical businesses. Jean-Louis Greze has been named president Grace Packaging Worldwide; Robert J. Bettacchi is president, Grace Construction Products-Worldwide; and Ian Priestnell is named president, Grace Dearborn Water Treatment Worldwide. Priestnell was also elected a corporate vice president of Grace. Fred Lempereur was elected a corporate senior vice president and will be responsible for the worldwide operations of three major specialty material lines -- graphic arts, electronic chemicals and engineered materials.
 This initial step in Grace's operating management reorganization is designed to capitalize on Grace's global businesses. As designated in its new worldwide business strategy, flexible packaging, water treatment and construction products are core business areas for Grace. The remaining core areas include container materials and the company's Davison products (catalysts and silica products), as well as health care.
 "These appointments are the first wave of a number of key operating positions to be filled in line with running our core businesses on a worldwide basis," said J. P. Bolduc, Grace president and chief operating officer. "We will shortly be tapping additional individuals who have outstanding track records as operating managers. In the long term," Bolduc added, "this new operating structure will position Grace as a more competitive company globally, and should improve our ability to respond in a timely fashion to customer requirements in all parts of the world."
 Greze, 60, currently a Grace senior vice president, added the operating post of president, Grace packaging worldwide. In this position, he will be responsible for all of Grace's $1.2 billion packaging businesses which consist primarily of the company's Cryovac flexible packaging business on a global basis. This business will have worldwide regionally-focused product line managers reporting to Greze.
 In 1960, Greze joined Grace France in the packaging sales department. Ten years later, he was promoted to vice president for Grace packaging in Europe. In 1976, he was appointed president for the newly created European Darex Division with responsibilities for the packaging, container and battery separator businesses. Two years ago, he was named a corporate senior vice president.
 Bettacchi will assume responsibility for the U.S. and European construction businesses and will also be responsible for coordinating Grace Construction Products activities in other parts of the world through Grace's Pacific Japan and Interamerican divisions. He will focus primarily on coordination of existing technologies, development of new worldwide markets and development of related new lines of business.
 Bettacchi, 49, joined Grace's Washington Research Center in 1968 as a commercial development analyst. He held several management and key executive positions before he was appointed to his current position in January 1990 as president of the Construction Products Division for the U.S. and elected a corporate vice president.
 Grace Dearborn North America and the Grace Dearborn Europe businesses will report directly to Priestnell, who will also be responsible for the coordination of Grace Dearborn activities in all other parts of the world, via Grace's Pacific, Japan and Interamerican Divisions.
 Priestnell, 48, joined the Dearborn United Kingdom organization in 1969 as a project manager. In 1974, he was promoted to general manager, Dearborn Germany and then held a series of sales management positions in the United Kingdom until his appointment as managing director and general manager, Service Chemicals, United Kingdom in 1979. Priestnell has served as executive director of Water Treatment, Grace Dearborn Europe since 1990.
 Prior to his appointment to manage Grace's worldwide graphic arts, electronic chemicals and engineered materials businesses, Lempereur, 54, was president of Grace's European Technical Products Division in Paris.
 Lempereur joined Grace in 1962 and since then has held several managerial and key executive positions with Grace's European specialty chemical business including vice president - operations. In 1976 he was named president of the company's European Technical Products Division. He was named a corporate vice president in 1986.
 Grace is the world's largest specialty chemicals company with a leadership position in health care.
