GRACE ACQUIRES LATIN AMERICA'S LARGEST WATER TREATMENT BUSINESS FROM AQUATEC

 BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- W. R. Grace & Co. (NYSE: GRA) today announced the acquisition of the water treatment and related operations of Aquatec Quimica S.A. of Sao Paulo, Brazil for an undisclosed amount. Aquatec will retain its surfactant operations in Brazil.
 The Aquatec water treatment and process chemicals business acquired by Grace has significant operations throughout South America and also operates in the U.S. and Portugal. Aquatec had 1992 sales of more than $70 million.
 In announcing this transaction, Ian Priestnell, president, Grace Dearborn, said, "With its leadership position in South America, Aquatec will complement our existing worldwide Dearborn operations. This strategic acquisition will accelerate the expansion of Grace's water treatment core business to better serve our global customers."
 Grace Dearborn water treatment products inhibit scale, corrosion and foulants in industrial cooling and boiler water systems. Additionally, its wastewater treatment products help customers make discharge water environmentally safe, and its process chemicals facilitate production processes in the paper, refining, petrochemical, sugar and mining industries.
 Grace is the world's largest specialty chemicals company with a leadership position in health care.
