GRACE ACQUIRES EMISSIONS REDUCTION BUSINESS FROM UOP'S KATALISTIKS

BOCA RATON, Fla., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- W. R. Grace & Co. (NYSE: GRA) today announced that a subsidiary has acquired UOP's Katalistiks fluid cracking catalyst additive business for an undisclosed amount.
The business consists primarily of the DESOX product line, an additive used to achieve compliance with environmental regulations in sulfur oxide (SOX) emissions, which contribute to acid rain. DESOX reduces SOX pollution by converting SOX to hydrogen sulfide, which is then treated to recover sulfur, a marketable product. DESOX allows refiners to meet the most stringent emission regulations with minimal capital investment. The transaction will include the DESOX technology, receivables and inventory.
This acquisition is in line with Grace's global strategy to focus on six core businesses, including fluid cracking catalysts.
According to Joseph A. Rightmyer, vice president, Grace Davison and general manager, fluid cracking catalysts, "This strategic acquisition reinforces Grace Davison's commitment to remain the leading supplier of fluid cracking catalysts and additives worldwide. The DESOX technology has applications in other additive approaches to solving FCC unit emission problems. We believe that the DESOX product line will continue as an important part of the refiner's operating strategy."
UOP is a joint venture between Union Carbide Corporation (NYSE: UK) and Allied-Signal, Inc. (NYSE: ALD).
Grace is the world's largest specialty chemicals company and holds a leadership position in specialized health care.
