GPT VIDEO SYSTEMS INCREASES U.S. COMMITMENT; RESTRUCTURING OPERATIONS TO
 ADDRESS POTENTIAL $1.5 BILLION MARKET
NOTTINGHAM, England, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- GPT Video Systems has announced a major restructuring of its U.S. operations as part of a significantly increased commitment to the American market.
The company, which is demonstrating technical leadership in the field of videoconferencing and videotelephony, is currently undertaking a multi-faceted business development program across the United States. The program includes:
-- A move from the current U.S. head office in Stamford, Conn., to new office facilities in GEC's engineering and administrative center in the major communications hub of Atlanta, Ga.
-- The establishment of a new nationwide sales and support infrastructure to address the whole of the United States.
-- A new product development program to produce the world's first standards-compatible multimedia and desk-top videoconferencing capability.
 -- Increased administrative capability.
"This move represents an important development in our U.S. operations," said Tom Doyle, director of GPT Video Systems. "lt enables us to provide significantly increased customer access through a network of nationwide regional offices.
"GEC Avionics has been established in the U.S. for 30 years, and currently provides the administration and support for many GEC companies in the U.S. This is great news for GPT. With GEC Avionics looking after all the day-to-day administration issues, we will be free to concentrate on developing our market.
"We believe that we have the most exciting and technically proficient product in the field. We can now provide that product with the most comprehensive product support infrastructure in our market in the U.S."
In July, the company demonstrated a unique prototype "communication module" which will form the heart of its new development program. This new product, available in mid 1993, is well placed to capture a larger section of the domestic multimedia market, estimated to be worth $1.5 billion by 1997.
