 GOVERNOR GEORGE V. VOINOVICH BEGINS
SECOND "SEE OHIO FIRST" TOUR IN CENTRAL OHIO
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor George V. Voinovich and his wife Janet will lead a group of travel journalists on the second "See Ohio First" tour, visiting many of central Ohio's key tourist attractions this weekend. The tour has attracted seven travel journalists from Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., New Jersey and Ontario (Canada).
"The interest in this tour by national and international travel journalists shows that Ohio offers unique tourism attractions that appeal to a diverse audience," said Voinovich. "My goal for these tours is to raise awareness of Ohio tourism by personally showcasing what this state has to offer."
The central Ohio tour will include visits to the Wexner Center, the Santa Maria, afternoons at the Ohio State Fair and at AmeriFlora '92, a walking tour of historic German Village, and an evening in Columbus' Brewery District.
Following the Columbus leg, the tour will head for Coshocton and Historic Roscoe Village, which features six historical museums, including early 19th century houses, a blacksmith shop, school house and an 1840's canal toll house. The weekend trip will end with a tour of Granville and brunch at the Granville Inn.
"These tours will help stimulate travel in Ohio in a cost-effective manner," said State Travel Director George Zimmermann. "There is no way we could afford to buy advertising in all of these publications."
Governor and Ms. Voinovich have committed to leading a total of nine "See Ohio First" tours over the next three years. The next of these tours will feature southeast Ohio tour sites, Oct. 23-25.
"The underlying agenda is to get Ohioans and out-of-state visitors to discover Ohio as a travel destination," noted Zimmermann. "Judging from the record number of calls we have had this year at 800-BUCKEYE, Ohio's travel information center, I would say that our message is reaching people."
Travel and tourism is a major contributor to Ohio's economy, generating $7.8 billion annually and providing 134,000 jobs for Ohioans.
