GOVERNMENT OF KUWAIT SIGNS LOA TO PURCHASE M1A2 ABRAMS FROM U.S. GOVERNMENT

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The government of Kuwait, on Wednesday, May 26, signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) formally completing its agreement to purchase 218 M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks from the U.S. government. The tanks will be produced by General Dynamics Land Systems Division.
The signing of the LOA was the final step in the contractual procedure between the governments of Kuwait and the United States. The government of Kuwait's action enables the U.S. Army to contract with General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) for the full production program and in- country program support.
Kuwait announced last October its selection of the M1A2 Abrams over the British Challenger II main battle tank. Deliveries are scheduled to begin within 18 to 24 months and continue through 1996.
