GOVERNMENT AGENCY RENEWS WACKENHUT CONTRACT

 CORAL GABLES, Fla., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Wackenhut Services, Inc. has been awarded a five-year contract worth approximately $320 million to provide paramilitary security services at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site, in South Carolina.
 It is one of the largest single-site contracts for security services in the United States, and has been held by the subsidiary of The Wackenhut Corporation (NYSE: WAK) since August 1983.
 Wackenhut Services, Inc. currently employs about 1,100 persons, most of whom are uniformed security personnel, at the 300-square-mile site near Aiken, S.C. and Augusta, Ga.
 Richard R. Wackenhut, president and chief operating officer of The Wackenhut Corporation, stated, "We are very pleased to continue our service at the Savannah River Site, and feel the selection was based in large measure on our accomplishments during our previous nine years at the facility."
 The Savannah River Site is a major producer of nuclear materials for the U.S. Department of Energy, and is the site of a key nuclear waste processing facility.
 The Wackenhut Corporation is one of the world's largest providers of private security services. It manages security operations and projects through its over 100 offices in the United States and additional offices in over 45 other countries. It was founded in 1954 by George R. Wackenhut, a former Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who remains today as the chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
