GOV. CASEY APPROVES $500,000 GRANT FOR SHENANGO VALLEY

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Robert P. Casey today announced a $500,000 competitive grant to support economic development in the Shenango Valley Enterprise Zone in Mercer County.
"This administration is proud of its Enterprise Zone program, which has helped establish or expand more than 1,650 Pennsylvania businesses and is credited with creating more than 14,000 jobs for Pennsylvania workers," Casey said.
"Since 1987, the Shenango Valley Enterprise Zone has benefitted from $2,245,637 in state Enterprise Zone grants."
The Shenango Valley Enterprise Zone will use the grant to provide loans to Sharpsville Quality Products, Inc. to help buy machinery and equipment and restock inventory for restarting the operation. About 100 people will be employed by the facility, which manufactures molds and foundry products for the steel industry.
Another $4.8 million will be invested from both public and private funding sources for the project.
Since 1987, the state has made more than $46.5 million available to help stimulate economic development activities in 50 designated enterprise zones statewide. The grants have leveraged more than $600 million in private investment.
Enterprise Zone grants are made available through the Bureau of Community Planning in the state Department of Community Affairs.
