GOTTSCHALKS ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER SALES RESULTS FRESNO, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Gottschalks Inc.
(NYSE: GOT) announced that November 1991 sales declined 1.2 percent to $33.7 million from $34.1 million for the prior November period. Same store sales for November decreased 1.6 percent. For the 43 week 1991 year-to-date period, total sales increased 11.3 percent to $237.5 million from $213.4 million for the year earlier year-to-date period. Same store sales on a year-to-date basis increased 5.2 percent over the prior year.
"November sales results were certainly influenced by both the calendar change from last year along with current consumer sentiment related to the economy," stated Joe Levy, chairman and chief executive officer. "We remain cautiously optimistic about December sales at this point and are well positioned from a merchandising and sales promotion perspective to meet the needs of our value conscious customers during the December period," added Levy.
