GOTTSCHALKS ANNOUNCES MARCH SALES RESULTS
GOTTSCHALKS ANNOUNCES MARCH SALES RESULTS FRESNO, Calif., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Gottschalks Inc.
(NYSE: GOT) announced that March 1992 sales increased 8.8 percent to $26.9 million from $24.7 million for the prior March. Same store sales for the March period decreased 3.5 percent. "March sales results were negatively influenced by the change in the Easter holiday from March during the prior year to April in the current year," stated Joe Levy, chairman and chief executive officer. "Certainly April sales results should benefit from the seasonal change. Our new store in Tacoma, Washington opened on March 2 and immediately became the sales leader among our stores. As a result of that performance, March sales finished ahead of plan," concluded Levy.
For the nine week period to date, total sales increased 5.1 percent to $44.5 million from $42.3 million with the same store sales decreasing 3.7 percent.
