GOTTSCHALKS ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY SALES RESULTS FRESNO, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Gottschalks Inc.
(NYSE: GOT) announced today that February 1992 sales were basically flat compared to the prior February. Same store sales for the period decreased 4 percent. Joe Levy, chairman and chief executive officer stated that the "same store sales decline was particularly noticeable in the Southern California region, while the Northern California and Central Valley stores fared somewhat better. Cosmetics, accessories and home fashion were particularly strong with apparel sales being weaker.
"Comparisons to the prior February were difficult given a total sales increase of 25 percent with same stores increasing 11 percent. With the prospect of warmer weather, and a successful opening of our new Tacoma store, we're confident that our March sales performance will improve," added Levy.
