GOSSIP GIRL: MayWard pays it forward.
Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber are probably the hottest couple in showbizlandia right now.
The two, known together as MayWard, were sizz ling in our recent show at Araneta Coliseum for a multi-level company. Watching them so sweet onstage brings on "kilig" even for people my age.
I talked to them backstage and was surprised to find out how mature their views are about life and paying it forward.
"My sister Laura, Maymay, and I with the guidance of my father put up the ELM tree foundation. The initials spell out our names (Edward, sister Laura, and Maymay). And the ELM tree is the perfect symbol for our foundation having deep roots and strong branches that give shade to children in the scorching sun," said Edward.
"When I came out of 'Pinoy Big Brother' in 2016, my father suggested to me the idea and I embraced it. I was really lucky to grow up and study in Germany in a good school, so you got to pay it forward. There are so many children in the Philippines that never get the chance to have a good education, to have a decent shelter, and emotional support. ELM Tree Foundation would like to give these children a shot at having the three basic needs of a child given to them.
"I know the line 'the youth is the future' has become cliche. Every candidate running for public office use that line. But what really matters is if we do something about it to make their future matter."
Maymay shared some projects they have been doing for ELM.
"Hindi pa ganoon kalaki 'yung foundation namin kaya may mga partnerships kami katulad ng collaboration namin with McDonalds," Maymay said of Bahay Bulilit reading homes built by the fast-food company in baranggays to teach children how to read.
The ELM tree foundation of Maymay, Edward and Laura helps raise the house for Bahay Bulilit.
Maymay hopes a town in the boondocks, some 45 minutes from Cagayan de Oro where she is from, would be chosen as beneficiary of the project.
"May church sa Bulalong kung saan tinutulungan ko yung mga bata sa children's ministry. Nagbibigay ako sa kanila ng school supplies tuwing pasukan. Sana magkaroon din kami ng Bahay Bulilit doon."
Aside from their big album launch this April 28, Edward's stint on "Wansapanataym," and Maymay's cameo in the upcoming Kathryn Bernardo-Alden Richards movie, ELM is organizing a benefit concert for end of 2019.
