GOODYEAR TIRE AD WINS AWARD

AKRON, Ohio, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The advertising campaign that helped propel Goodyear's water-fighting Aquatred tire to sales of more than 1 million in its first year has won a silver EFFIE award from the American Marketing Association.
The Aquatred advertising campaign made its television debut during the 1992 Winter Olympics with a computer-designed image of the tire forming from a pool of water on the highway.
Bronze, silver and gold EFFIEs are given to agency-client teams for advertising effectiveness and creativity. The Aquatred campaign was one of three nominees in the automotive products and services category.
Accepting the award for Goodyear at the 25th annual EFFIE awards ceremony in New York City were Barry Robbins, vice president of marketing for North America; Al Eastwood, vice president of replacement sales; and Roger Zwingler, director of marketing communications, along with representatives of Goodyear's advertising agency, J. Walter Thompson.
The Aquatred tire has received 10 design, marketing and advertising awards from various publications and associations across the United States.
