WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Goody's Manufacturing Corporation and Bristol International Raceway announced an agreement that will place the Goody's name on two new events on the NASCAR schedule in 1994.
Goody's Manufacturing Corp. of Winston-Salem, N.C., maker of Goody's Headache Powders and Pain Relief Tablets, will become the sponsor for two events at Bristol. The speedway's spring NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division race and the late summer Winston Cup event.
In making the announcement, Goody's Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, Ann Lewallen Spencer said the company's sponsorship of the Bristol race is a natural progression of its successful participation in the NASCAR motorsports.
"Joining Bristol International Raceway is another important step forward for Goody's in racing and we are most grateful for this opportunity," Spencer said. "Our association with NASCAR racing has been wonderful and rewarding. The sport has great, loyal followers who support those companies which occupy the many sponsorship roles."
"To be a part of two significant races at Bristol -- one of the most exciting tracks in NASCAR -- is something we feel will be of great benefit to us and, we trust, to NASCAR, Bristol and the fans. We're pleased to be associated with the Bristol International Raceway."
The Bristol Goody's 500 will become the second race Goody's sponsors on the Winston Cup schedule. For more than a decade, the Goody's 500 has been an annual late September event at the Martinsville (Virginia) Speedway. With the Bristol race, Goody's assumes primary sponsorship of the event long supported by Budweiser -- the Bud 500. Budweiser will continue to play a major role at the .533 mile Bristol track.
The Goody's 250 is the second major Busch Series event sponsorship for the company. Goody's also sponsors the season-opening Goody's 300 at the Daytona International Speedway.
The Bristol Goody's 500 is a night race and is one of NASCAR's most popular stops. The event offers fans plenty of great racing. Each year, it is one of Winston Cup's most eagerly anticipated events. Both it and the Goody's 250 are televised live by ESPN. The Goody's 250 will be held on April 9, 1994 and the Bristol Goody's 500 will be Saturday evening, August 29, 1994.
"We are very pleased to have Goody's join us at Bristol," said Larry Carrier, President and owner of the speedway. "It is a company with a long legacy of NASCAR support and we are glad if felt our speedway, people and races were worthy of its attention. We honestly believe the association is going to be beneficial for all concerned.
According to the Bristlol "Herald-Courier," more that $39 million is pumped into the local economy by races at the Bristol International Speedway. This figure includes money spent by race fans on food, lodging, gas and other expenses in an area well beyond the Tri-Cities.
With its sponsorship of the Bristol race, Goody's participation in NASCAR increases significantly. In addition to being the "Official Pain Reliever of NASCAR," the company sponsors, on the Winston Cup circuit, the Goody's 500 in Martinsville, the Goody's Pole Night for the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and its long-running "Goody's Headache Award" presented at each Winston Cup race.
On the Busch Series tour, there is the Goody's 300 and the Goody's Invitational Series, which presents invitations to the Daytona event to competitors who win selected races during the season. In addition, the company sponsors the 16-event NASCAR Goody's DASH Series events for sub-compact cars.
Goody's was founded in 1932. Along with the popular headache power, the company distributes Goddy's Pain Relief Tablets and other pharmaceutical products, including Isodettes sore throat spray and lozenges.
