A COUNCILLOR who represented a constituency while living 1400 miles away in Austria has finally resigned.
Arthur Morrison stood down after failing to balance the role with his full-time job as a consultant in the semi-conductor industry.
It was revealed in August that the SNP representative for Kirkcaldy East was not holding surgeries and could only be reached by email.
He was still drawing a PS16,234 councillor's salary despite missing 40 Fife Council meetings last year.
Since details of his abysmal attendance record came to light, political rivals referred to Morrison as the representative for Vienna East.
He announced his resignation on Friday, saying it had been "a great privilege" to serve.
He added: "It has become increasingly difficult to balance the demands of my employment with the demands of representing my constituents."
Labour councillor Kay Carrington said: "We need to ensure we get someone elected that will put the time in and help people access the services they're entitled to. That's the job."
