 GOLF FANS BENEFIT FROM VOICE RESPONSE SYSTEM INSTALLED
 AT NEW ENGLAND CLASSIC BY USTELECENTERS
 BOSTON, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- At the New England Classic, getting information about tickets, schedules or directions is easy for the 120,000 golf fans who attend the popular PGA Tour event, thanks to a voice response system installed by USTeleCenters.
 During the New England Classic, scheduled this year from July 23-26 at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Mass., visitors can call one telephone number, 508-865-1491, and select from a menu of options offered by a VMX, Inc. voice processing system to discover which of their favorite pros will be playing. The menus are set up by USTeleCenters, a VMX distributor that also volunteers employees' time to record information for mailboxes and maintain the system.
 The voice processing system, accessed daily by hundreds of callers using touchtone phones, is operational 24 hours a day, answers as many as eight calls simultaneously, and allows callers to obtain information without the aid of an operator.
 In also provides messaging capabilities for members of 30 New England Classic committees as well as the golf pros on tour, allowing more than 250 individuals to stay in touch efficiently by leaving messages that can be picked up by intended recipients.
 New England Classic Tournament Director Diane Laska said until the voice response system was installed last year, staff members and volunteers had to man the phones, a job that kept people from other important tasks. "It wasn't easy," she said. This year, the VMX system is on-line to accept the deluge of calls that come from fans in the weeks before the tournament and throughout the event.
 Todd Luttinger, director of system sales for USTeleCenters, said, "Keeping communications running smoothly is essential at events such as the New England Classic. We saw a way we could help facilitate this and were happy to do so."
 Money from the New England Classic goes to the Worcester Area Association for Retarded Citizens and The Girls and Boys Club of Worcester, as well as a number of smaller charities. The tournament began in 1965 and attracts leading PGA Tour golfers.
